What is a Penetration Test?

A Penetration Test or (pen test) as it’s commonly known is the act of attacking systems and applications as an adversary would to discover vulnerabilities that could be exploited to cause harm to systems, users, reputation an much more. A Pen Test uses both automated and manual techniques to discover issues which are then reported back to the business to remediate and strengthen security controls. and best practices, not only this a penetration test helps businesses meet and attain compliance, provides reassurances to yourself and clients that the systems/applications and data used are secure.

Scoping – We work with your business to scope and provide a detailed breakdown of work to be undertaken during the assessment. This is an opportunity for us to clearly understand your requirements, discuss any prerequisites and answer any questions you may have regarding Penetration Testing.

Contract– We work to the highest ethical standards and adhere to industry best practices. This is an opportunity for your business to read over our terms, agree and sign a waiver to allow SMARTSEC to test legally.

Testing – Testing will begin on the dates agreed using one of our qualified penetration testing consultants. All our consultants hold or have held industry recognized qualifications, such as CREST, OSCP (Offensive Security Certified Professional), SANS. We also use only industry known methodologies such as the OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) and PTES (Penetration Testing Execution Standard) Our consultants will communicate with the nominated contact throughout the engagement.

Reporting – Our simple, clear reporting  details all findings from the engagement which allows your business to quickly make strategic decisions along with a detailed explanations of findings and how to remediate them.

Support – We don’t just leave you with a report, we pride ourselves on offering a great service and offer a review with your business to discuss any or all aspects of the report with you.
